Androsexual

Androsexual is a sexual orientation that describes someone who is sexually attracted to men, males, and/or masculinity.

Here's a breakdown of what that means:

Sexual Attraction: Androsexuality specifically refers to sexual attraction, which involves the desire for sexual contact or intimacy with other people.

Attraction to Men/Males: The core of androsexuality is sexual attraction towards individuals who identify as men, are male-bodied, and/or present masculinely.

Inclusivity: Similar to androromantic, the terms "men," "males," and "masculinity" are often used to be inclusive of various gender identities. This can include:

  • Cisgender men: Individuals assigned male at birth who identify as men.
  • Transgender men: Individuals assigned female at birth who identify as men.
  • Non-binary individuals: People who don't identify exclusively as men or women but may still identify with masculinity or present masculinely.

Not Necessarily Exclusive: An androsexual person may or may not be exclusively attracted to men/masculinity. They might also experience sexual attraction to other genders. If they are exclusively attracted to men/masculinity, they might also identify as homosexual.

Distinction from Romantic Attraction: It's crucial to remember that sexual attraction is different from romantic attraction. Someone who is androsexual is sexually attracted to men/masculinity, but their romantic attraction (if any) could be directed towards any gender. For example, someone could be androsexual and aromantic (experiencing no romantic attraction) or androsexual and gynephilic (romantically attracted to femininity).

Androsexual vs. Similar Terms:

Homosexual (Gay): Homosexual specifically means sexual attraction to people of the same gender. For a man, this would be other men. For someone non-binary who identifies with masculinity, it would be others who identify with masculinity. Androsexual is often used as a broader term encompassing attraction to men and masculinity, which can include individuals who don't strictly identify as the same gender.

Gynesexual: The counterpart to androsexual, describing sexual attraction to women, females, and/or femininity.

Bisexual/Pansexual/Polysexual: These terms describe sexual attraction to more than one gender. An androsexual person might also identify as bisexual, pansexual, or polysexual if their sexual attraction extends beyond men/masculinity.

In simple terms, androsexual describes someone who experiences sexual attraction towards men, males, and/or people who present masculinely.
